CarBatteryReFactory
Official launch of FENECON CarBatteryReFactory
On 27 March 2024, FENECON’s CarBatteryReFactory was officially opened. FENECON welcomed numerous guests of honour from politics, business and science to the inauguration of the specialised electricity storage production site. Read our press release here.
The CarBatteryReFactory will create around 100 new jobs in the region in the long term.
“We are very pleased about the great interest in our CarBatteryReFactory and would like to thank all guests for their support. For us as a company, the opening is an important milestone.
The market for large storage systems in trade and industry as well as for solar and charging parks is currently growing very dynamically. The significant expansion of production capacity for our award-winning FENECON Industrial series therefore comes at exactly the right time and enables us to offer very competitive prices,” explains Franz-Josef Feilmeier, founder and CEO.
Impressions from the factory - March 2024
The 24,000 square metre FENECON site next to the A3 motorway with modern production halls and warehouses, development laboratories and offices has successfully gone into operation. The production processes have thus been scaled up in series:
The home storage line has been running since January, with large-scale production of the FENECON Industrial models following in February. Only new electric vehicle batteries from German premium vehicle manufacturers are used in the commercial and industrial storage systems with capacities ranging from 82 kWh to 1,288 kWh.
The three series storage platforms from FENECON fully utilise the many advantages of these batteries - such as the high product quality and long service life, the particularly high efficiency, the easy transportability and the liquid-based temperature management.
Modern, sustainable energy concept
FENECON utilises a large amount of roof and façade space at the site for the optimal, year-round production of solar power: the roof photovoltaic system comprising almost 800 modules has an output of 307 kWp, while the around 550 façade PV modules provide 204 kWp. All PV modules, inverters and the substructure of the façade system come from German manufacturers. In addition, two heat pumps provide a heating output of 250 kW. In summer, these can also be operated in cooling mode. Two FENECON Industrial M systems located on site support the company’s own production processes with temporarily stored energy (avoiding grid expansion) and peak shaving: The combined output of both systems is 352 kW, with a capacity of 656 kWh. All 29 car parks in the company’s own charging park are equipped with charging stations for electric cars. The company car park is completely electric.
Political visit at the final spurt of the new building
Shortly before moving into the CarBatteryReFactory, the Bavarian Minister of State for Housing, Construction and Transport Christian Bernreiter (CSU) visited the new FENECON production site on 1 December 2023.
Wolfgang Haider, the first mayor of the municipality of Iggensbach (UBL), and CSU members of parliament Stefan Meyer and Josef Heisl were also guests at the ultra-modern plant in Iggensbach.
FENECON CEO Franz-Josef Feilmeier explained the plans for the new site in detail to the guests from the world of politics. Minister of State Christian Bernreiter showed his delight at the developments in Iggensbach.
In the future, innovations for the energy transition - Battery energy storage systems for the home, commerce and industry - will be produced in the new factory.
Construction work almost complete:
Moving in at the turn of the year 2023/2024
Right on schedule: after a good year of construction, the new FENECON site is almost complete at the beginning of December. By the end of the month, the responsible building authority will be notified of the start of utilisation and the factory building will be largely occupied.
Production can then start at the beginning of 2024. The FENECON home storage line will move in first, before industrial storage systems are also produced in large series from zero, first and second-life vehicle batteries in the CarBatteryReFactory. The large indoor crane is already ready for this. The vertical photovoltaic façade is almost completely installed. Drywall work, the technical fit-out and interior fit-out as well as the two-storey office fit-out have been completed.
Our FENECON team is looking forward to the start of this sustainable project for the construction of Battery energy storage systems from electric vehicle batteries, which is subsidised by the EU Innovation Fund and the Bavarian Economic Development Agency.
FENECON celebrates topping-out ceremony
FENECON celebrated the topping-out ceremony in Iggensbach, where the CarBatteryReFactory is being built. At the end of 2023, FENECON starts manufacturing large energy storage systems made from EV-batteries at the new facility.
After the construction work had progressed according to schedule and the earthworks, canalisation, concrete work and installation of precast concrete elements had been completed, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated in June 2023 - together with the companies, trades and project teams involved.
“Long live the builders who have given their strength to the construction.” - From the topping-out speech.

FENECON in the Iggensbach West industrial park -
Location for the 100% energy transition
Modern production and storage facilities, development laboratories and offices are being built on the site, which is located directly on the A3 freeway exit Iggensbach. All parking lots will be equipped with charging stations for electric cars. FENECON uses suitable roof and facade surfaces for solar power production.
Industrial production is scheduled to start at the end of 2023 and grow along with it, for well over 90 new employees, a third of whom are jobs for engineers. In 2024, the new office building opposite the CarBatteryReFactory is to be occupied and the FENECON main site inaugurated.
Breaking ground for a climate-friendly future
The CarBatteryReFactory is being built in Iggensbach, Lower Bavaria, in the district of Deggendorf. The project is funded with 4.5 million euros by the EU Innovation Fund, which supports particularly sustainable and climate-friendly projects.
In addition, FENECON received 1.7 million euros from the Bavarian Economic Development Corporation for the construction of the electricity storage factory. At the future production site, industrial storage systems will be manufactured from zero-, first- and second-life vehicle batteries from the end of 2023.
FENECON has already been producing large container storage systems from electric vehicle batteries since 2017. Small series production is currently still taking place at the plant in Künzing; industrialization for large series production is then to take place at the CarBatteryReFactory in Iggensbach.
