Deggendorf, Germany, October 30, 2024 ---- FENECON, a leading provider of battery energy storage systems and smart energy management systems, has released the new version of the smart FEMS App Time-of-use tariff.
This allows users to benefit from electricity prices on the market that fluctuate significantly at times during the day: The app uses artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically realize massive savings potential when purchasing electricity - while at the same time reducing the load on the electricity grid.
More than 700 participants rigorously tested the FEMS Dynamic Electricity Tariff app over the course of an extensive eleven-month beta test, allowing FENECON’s software developers to continuously optimize the underlying algorithm based on extensive user feedback. The app is now available as a full version in the ‘FEMS App Centre’ in online monitoring and is aimed at both home users and companies that use FENECON storage - for production, for EV charging parks or for day-to-day business operations.
Self-consumption optimization 2.0: AI ensures precise energy planning and grid procurement at optimal prices
With the help of AI, the FEMS App Time-of-use tariff independently develops a precise energy plan for the next 36 hours, which is constantly updated. In doing so, it consistently takes into account the individual generation and consumption profile. On this basis, the system decides when generated electricity is consumed, stored or fed into the grid, and when electricity is purchased at market electricity prices. A particularly innovative feature is that the app intelligently ensures that electricity is always available at favorable prices when it is needed and does not have to be purchased when electricity prices on the market are high.
Dynamic electricity tariffs – available everywhere in Germany from 2025
In addition to a FENECON energy storage system, all that is required to use the app is a smart meter and a dynamic electricity tariff, which every electricity supplier in Germany must have in their contract portfolio from January 1, 2025. The app is compatible with all energy suppliers.
With dynamic electricity tariffs, the price is based on the current electricity market price and therefore varies over the course of the day. In the event of negative electricity prices, customers even receive money if they purchase electricity and thus stabilize the grids. These tariffs are particularly worthwhile in combination with an energy storage system and open up a very high savings potential, especially in winter with the FEMS app.
Open source-based energy management system FEMS
An award-winning, powerful and self-learning energy management system is integrated into all FENECON energy storage solutions. This operating system offers maximum flexibility and - as it is based on an open source platform - is future-proof. The FENECON Energy Management System (FEMS) not only enables the integration of dynamic electricity tariffs, but also smart sector coupling of electricity, e-mobility and heat. At the same time, it can be used to intelligently optimize self-consumption and residual power consumption from the grid and prevent the unwanted curtailment of PV systems.
